Bartonella henselae are massive beasts that prey upon Soma’s inhabitants. Resembling other-worldly lions, the creatures scratch their way into the land through the boundary wall, then meander across the land, terrorizing Soma’s innocent as they go. They launch themselves at their prey, sinking their claws in and clamping down their teeth. Their grasp contorts their victim’s insides while the giant cats inject venomous proteins that finish the kill.
B. henselae often attack when Soma is at its weakest, threatened by another Pestilence agent that is occupying the Noble Sentry’s strongest fighters. They regularly exchange the recipes for their toxic injections, strengthening the killing power of the whole group. Furthermore, they are robust against Soma’s varying weather conditions, equipped with fortified fur coat that protects them against changing temperature and pH. Once they enter the land, getting rid of them is no easy task.
Azithromycin and Doxycycline are most commonly called in to fight the beasts, but Erythromycin, Ciprofloxacin, and Tetracycline can also be effective defenders against these wretched foes. However, if the proper Apothecaries are not unleashed quickly enough, B. henselae can make their way throughout the land, from the Nodal Sentry headquarters in the Marrow of the Skeletal Mountains and Lymph canal system to the waste aqueduct and filtration centers, eventually finding Sententia, where they disrupt Soma’s ability to coordinate its operations. Even more threatening is B. henselae’s ability to alter Soma’s river tributaries and streams, redirecting water to support their own survival. If their presence is not recognized and responded to appropriately, B. henselae could be the end of Soma.
