Y’know being a Nerdcore Learner not only means that you are passionate about medicine. It defines a mutual appreciation for people that are similarly passionate about their own fields, whether it be in the arts or sciences. In my experience, the very best physicians were inevitably awesome at not only their chosen field but one or two other things also. W. Shields, a urologic surgeon I went to med school with also ‘happened’ to be a graduate of the Juilliard school of music. I’m currently working with an engineer on building a better hand-hygiene delivery system, and saw this on his blog, generalism. It seemed to illustrate how something as simple as a musical break-beat can have a storied and intricate past. Perhaps being sensitive to even the most subtle points of learning helps us stand out.
